Recommend to your librarian

You can use this form to recommend that your library subscribes to one or more of the journals published by The Company of Biologists. Please send the completed form directly to your librarian.

Activating your subscription

After The Company of Biologists has received payment for your subscription you will receive a confirmation letter containing your Customer Number. You will need this in order to activate your online subscription, so please keep safely. You will only need to activate your subscription once when you first access your subscription.

By paying for your subscription you are agreeing to all Copyright conditions and our Terms & Conditions for individual subscribers.

Renewal

Renewal notices will be sent to you by The Company of Biologists in advance of your subscription expiry date. If you have any queries relating to your renewal please contact sales{at}biologists.com.

 

Prices

Individual subscriptions are for personal use only and are not for use in a library. The Company of Biologists no longer accepts new print only individual subscriptions. However, existing print subscribers may renew at the rates shown below.

VAT

UK VAT rates of 20% may apply to online subscriptions. VAT is calculated on a proportion of the total value of combined subscriptions

Postage

Subscription prices include postage (air freight class). Airmail is available at an additional cost. Please contact sales{at}biologists.com for a quotation.

Society discounts

The Company of Biologists works closely with a number of Scientific Societies and is happy to offer their members specially negotiated discounted rates of up to 40%. We are happy to hear from other societies wishing to join this list. Please contact sales{at}biologists.com for further details. It should be noted that individual and society member subscriptions are for personal use only and not for use in a library.

Terms & conditions

By purchasing a subscription and by using the journals and websites of The Company of Biologists or any services accessible from the websites, the user is agreeing to the Terms & Conditions below and our Copyright Policy.

Our commitment to you:

Subscriptions are valid between 1 January and 31 December of any given year.

If you take the online subscription, a quality electronic version of your selected journal(s) will be available before paper publication and distribution. We try to keep our website available at all reasonable times, subject to necessary maintenance and unforeseen events.

The rights we will grant:

Our journals are protected by copyright and our copyright statements and disclaimers will apply. Please note that we do not accept responsibility for the work of our authors and also that, because our organisation is not-for-profit, we require to limit our liability to the amount of your subscription fee.

The Company of Biologists Limited complies with current Data Protection Legislation, Registration No Z5687555.

Users may:

  • Copy, download and store full text articles for their personal scholarly research and educational use
  • Use articles for teaching purposes and any other purposes permitted by our copyright statement. Each item must carry appropriate acknowledgement of the authors, journal, year, volume, issue, page citation and publisher

Users may not:

  • Remove or alter the author's names or the Publisher's copyright notices or other means of identification or disclaimers as they appear on the websites or in the journal content
  • Systematically make print or electronic copies or multiple extracts of make multiple copies of any part of the content for any purpose other than that permitted by the copyright statement
  • Prepare derivative works or download, mount or distribute any part of the content on any electronic system or network, including without limitation the Internet and the World Wide Web, other than the Secure Network, except when permission has been obtained from the Publisher
  • Alter, abridge or otherwise modify the content or any part of them for any purpose whatsoever
  • Make their printed copy of the journal available for use in a library
  • Use of open proxies is strictly prohibited
  • Share passwords or accounts with friends or colleagues

FAQS

Will I receive a password? May I share my password with friends or is its use limited to me?
When you complete the subscriptions process you will receive a letter containing your customer number. You will need this to activate your subscription. You create your own password during the activation process. You are the only one licenced to use this password.

What if I forget my password?

Why should I get an individual subscription?
Individual subscribers have access to: Tables of contents, abstracts, full text searching, full text display, document delivery, PDFs, links to Medline and GenBank, future tables of contents, and the advantage of having password access to the Journals of The Company of Biologists from any computer with internet access.

How can I access the journals of The Company of Biologists online if I am not a personal subscriber and I don't have access through an institutional subscription?
Without a subscription you have access to Tables of Contents, abstracts and full text searching (without full text viewing) at no cost and without having to register. Access to individual articles can be purchased. Content is made accessible after 6 months without fee or registration. The freely accessible and searchable archives extend back to when the journals were first published.
